The Discipline Book :
Everything You Need to Know to Have
a Better-Behaved Child-From Birth to Age Ten

William Sears, MD and Martha Sears R.N., IBCLC

This book has been indispensable for our family! An extensive and complete resource book for parents of young children, Mr. and Mrs. Sears promote gentle, firm discipline techniques. They also explain how an attached relationship with your child can prevent discipline problems. There is a focus on the concept that discipline involves equipping children with self discipline skills, and the tools to become happy, confident adults. Parents are encouraged to recognize, and work with the individual temperaments, developmental stages and personalities of children. Provides a wonderful basis for understanding how and why certain types of discipline will work for your child.

Reader Reviews:

GRIN-Read this book! "This is another Dr. Sears must have in your parenting library. Along with learning why your child does the things he does, you'll get some great suggestions on how to handle them. I re-read this book everytime I feel I am losing the battle. I then feel ready, again, to do my job as a Mom to the fullest. A MUST HAVE! " - Michelle

Kid Cooperation:
How to Stop Yelling, Nagging and Pleading
and Get Kids to Cooperate

Elizabeth Pantley

What a great book! None of the psycho-babble or artificial conversation techniques that I find so annoying in many other discipline books. Kid Cooperation is concise, straightforward and full of practical information, advice and positive techniques to teach children cooperation, self discipline and respect. Take the parenting quiz and find out how your parenting style can affect your relationship with your child and the effectiveness of your discipline techniques. Chapter topics include The Keys to Successful Parenting, Punishment Versus Discipline, Cooperation, Self Esteem, Nurturing Sibling Relationships among others. There are also chapters about handling your own anger and taking care of yourself. Don't just take my word for it, the reviews of Kid Cooperation at Amazon.com are glowing and you can read some of Elizabeth's work here at Parentingweb. Featured in the Gentle Discipline area are several excerpts from her new book Perfect Parenting! (see below)

Perfect Parenting:

This is a great book that consists of common (and some not so common!) discipline "problems" organized alphabetically. The topics are cross referenced for easy access to related information. For each topic, Ms. Pantley gives several creative solutions so that you can find one that works for your child. Visit Parentingweb's Gentle Discipline area to read some excerpts from this wonderful book that is loaded with common sense and clear, practical advice.

Though there are many wonderful books available about discipline available, I have decided to limit my recommendations to these three books. The Discipline Book and Ms. Pantley's books compliment each other, providing discipline information and a vast number of specific tools and techniques to try. There is so much variety in these books that all families are sure to find solutions that will work for them.
